HEALTH AND INNOVATION FOR THE NEXT GENERATION
A Program of Global Family Resources
FOLKS, THERE IS A PROBLEM:
Broken families affect all areas of society—from healthcare, to education, to employment, to poverty. But, even more devastatingly, that brokenness can plague a person's life for generations. Here are just some of the ramifications of family breakdown in the United States:
·More than 400,000 children currently live in the U.S. foster care system—without the security and support of a family.
·The American Psychological Association (APA) reports that between 40 and 50 percent of first marriages in the U.S. end in divorce.
·When divorced couples marry again, the divorce rate increases (APA).
BROKENNESS IS THE STATUS QUO:
But, GLOBAL FAMILY RESOURCES SAYS WE CAN DO BETTER!
The Carriage Kids Writers Club © equips young adults to thrive!
WHAT IS THE CARRIAGE KIDS WRITERS CLUB ©?
In 2018, Blake Fite assembled a group of young students to exercise their creative skills as first-time authors, and the result was the 2019 book: Echoes of Newtown (the first in the Carriage Kids Series of books). The book chronicles the wild journey of a runaway orphan gang in search of true family—and processing their loss along the way. So much more than just a good read, Echoes of Newtown challenges searchers of truth with therapeutic discussion questions to consider alone or in the presence of a safe adult. Plus, each chapter has real-life survival tips!
Originally, the goal was to get this book into the hands of every foster-care resident in the state of Oklahoma, but the vision has grown!
GROWING THE NEXT GENERATION OF WRITERS
OUR TEAM THOUGHT…If this original group of students collaborated to produce a book of adventure and healing, why not do more than just distribute the book? Why not teach other young people how to write their own book?!
